NIKOLA ONE LAUNCHES FUEL CELL POWERED TRUCK

Nikola Motor Company has revealed a hydrogen fuel cell powered truck with a claimed range of 1,900km – a significant increase on existing diesel trucks.

Designed as a long-haul solution, the hydrogen powered truck due in 2020 will produce 1,000 horsepower and 2,700Nm of torque.

Nikola will also include enough hydrogen for 1 million miles and include servicing in the unconfirmed price for a 72-month lease.

According to CEO Trevor Milton, the One will be the most cost environmentally and cost-efficient model on the market.

‘We are extremely excited to finally show off the Nikola One to the public for the first time,” Milton said.

“There are many out there that wondered if we would deliver, but today we proudly show off the most advanced semi-truck ever built. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have one of the best brands in America, Ryder, as our trusted partner providing nationwide sales, service and warranty for Nikola Motor Company.”

Nikola is claiming the trucks will have major gains in acceleration and mileage, as well as significant reductions in weight and distance required to stop.

The interior of the truck sounds more like an advert for a luxury unit, with one or two full-size beds, a 40-inch curved 4K TV with Apple TV, Wi-Fi, and 4G LTE connectivity, a refrigerator, freezer, and microwave all listed as inclusions.

American trucking company Fitzgerald will build the first 5,000 units but Nikola has plans to produce the trucks in a state of the art plant.

“Nikola will build a world-class advanced manufacturing facility which will create thousands of new jobs,” Milton said.

Nikola will commence building fueling stations to support the innovation across America and Canada from 2018.
