ARGOSY GETS CUMMINS OFFERING

Freightliner Cummins

Freightliner has confirmed the Argosy will have a new engine option, with the new Cummins X15 on offer as well as the Detroit DD15.

The new engine line up makes Freightliner the only manufacture with a choice of 15-litre engines for B-double truck use.

Cummins’ X15 is the evolution of the ISXe5, and is rated between 485 and 600hp producing up to 2780Nm of torque.

The X15 features Advanced Dynamic Efficient Powertrain Technology (ADEPT) – a suite of advanced electronic features capable of delivering fuel economy gains through improved powertrain integration.

It utilises load, speed and grade-sensing technology to initiate adjustments to engine power, torque and transmission gear selection to take advantage of vehicle momentum for better fuel economy.

“We are excited to be able to offer the new Cummins X15 to our loyal Argosy customers in addition to the proven Detroit DD15,” said Stephen Downes, Freightliner’s director.

“Freightliner is the only brand that can give customers at the heavy end of the market the opportunity to choose the big bore engine solution that best suits their application.”

The AEDPT package has two features: Smart Coast, which disengages the front of the gearbox on moderate downhill slopes to improve fuel economy, and SmartTorque which eliminates unnecessary downshifts to ensure the truck is always in the optimum rev range for fuel efficiency and torque output.

The new engine will also offer Cummins’ new telematics software which automatically process fault data and provides the engine maker with feedback detailing probable causes and recommends actions.

The expert advice, delivered by email, app or web portal, enables the fleet manager to make an informed decision about continuing truck operation and when to schedule a service visit for the most convenient time and maximises uptime.

Cummins is also expected to roll out over-the-air engine programming, allowing for updates to be calibrated without needing to take the truck into a service centre.
