Long time Mack and Volvo Australia executive, Gary Bone has been announced the new boss of Penske’s on-highway operations for Australia and New Zealand.

Penske made the announcement yesterday that Bone will be taking over the executive general manager of on-highway operations  from long time incumbent Craig Lee, who has resigned and will be departing the operation in June having made the decision to take up a new role with a major trailer manufacturer.

Bone joined Penske last year as general manager of eastern operations, and has been overseeing Penske’s New South Wales and Queensland operations, including both on- and off-highway services.

Penske points out that Bone brings comprehensive experience in the on-highway sector to his new role, having previously held those senior executive roles with Mack and Volvo.

The managing director of Penske Australia and New Zealand, Hamish Christie Johnson praised Lee’s contribution to the Penske operation  over many years.

“After 11 years with Penske, Craig has decided to step down from his role as executive general manager of on-highway to lead a privately owned business in the road transport industry,” said Christie-Johnston.

“During his extensive tenure, Craig has held several senior roles within our organisation, culminating in leading the wholesale and retail truck business,” he said.

“He never shied away from the toughest challenges and consistently strengthened the areas of the business under his leadership.

“With our sincere thanks and best wishes, Craig will conclude his time with Penske mid-year,” he said.

“We are delighted that Gary Bone has accepted the responsibility of succeeding Craig Leein the role.

“In his time with the business, Gary Bone has made a strong impact and was the natural choice to step into this position, and his appointment is a testament to the depth and capability of our senior leadership team.”

In his new role as executive general manager of on-highway, Penske says Bone will be responsible for truck and bus retail and fleet sales, OEM relationships, on-highway after sales, on-highway sales administration, dealer development, and the on-highway vehicle processing centre at  Wacol, in Brisbane’s west.
