CHINA TRIALS NEW BUS SAFETY MEASURES

The Municipal Commission of Transport in Guangzhou, China is trialling a bus with improved safety measures to aid passengers in an emergency.

The electric bus in the Guangdong Province features seven opening ‘safety windows’ which can be opened either by the driver or passengers.

Each window is also positioned lower in order to make escape easier for the elderly and children.

When an emergency button is pressed, information on an electronic screen outside the bus immediately changes from the bus number to “SOS,” accompanied by emergency lights and alarms.

The bus is also equipped with a “black box” that automatically sends information and video footage to the control centre when an accident happens.

The trial of the new safety systems comes a week after 26 were killed when a bus caught fire in north-eastern China.
