Heidelberg Materials is the recently adopted name for the company many of us identify as Hanson, the concrete and building materials giant which is easily identified by its vivid green trucks.
Daimer trucks Australia has revealed that Heidelberg Materials has recently purchased Freightliner Cascadia 126 day cab models s to operate out of its depots around Australia.
According to Freightliner, Heidelberg Materials chose the Cascadia for its optimum payload, which it said made the day cab an easy choice for truck and dog operations.
The American-built Cascadia 126 is powered by a 16-litre Detroit DD16 engine producing 600hp and a significant 2050lb-ft of torque and Daimler says it is known for its efficient operation.
The Heidelberg Materials trucks were purchased with the 12-speed DT12 automated manual transmissions (AMT) although Freightliner does offer the Cascadia with an 18-speed manual. Clearly the Cascadia’s operate mostly in urban conditions battling the stop start traffic that makes the AMT the best option by far.
Daimler also boasts that the Cascadia is known for its class-leading safety features including a full-suite of active safety systems as well as unmatched visibility due partly to its sloping bonnet design and its optional bonnet-mounted spotter mirrors.
Andrew Assimo, Daimler Truck Australia Pacific’s vice president for sales, marketing and operations, said that the Cascadia is the perfect fit for the Heidelberg Materials fleet.
“We’re thrilled to see the Freightliner Cascadia delivering safety and productivity benefits for Heidelberg Materials,” Assimo said .
“The 126 is a fantastic package, especially when you consider its light tare and its full suite of active safety features and we know they will love them,” he added.
Daimler tells us that the Freighliner Cascadia features the Detroit Assurance 5.0 safety package that includes Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS), as well as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW), while Side Guard Assist is also available as an option.
The company also boasts that the Freightliner Cascadia is still the only bonneted truck in Australia that is fitted with a steering wheel-mounted driver airbag.
Freightliner tells us that the Cascadia also comes with its Detroit Connect telematics, which allows fleet managers to see a full report of any incidents, complete with video capture from the integrated forward facing camera.
