Mercedes-Benz

Fuso has  announced it has launched a new  range of its flagship Shogun models which the company claims is  headed up by the ‘most powerful Japanese heavy-duty truck in Australia’.

Fuso has revealed that its new Shogun 530 now features  a more efficient upgraded engine,  which s both lighter than the engines offered by its rivals, but also out powers them with 530 horsepower and 2600Nm of torque.

The company says that this gives the Shogun 530 a 50 horsepower and more than 400Nm advantage over the next most-powerful Japanese truck on the Australian market

Fuso says the Shogun 530 also comes with a 70-tonne maximum GCM rating, which the company claims  further extended its breadth.

The makeover of its flagship range includes an attractive  new appearance with all Shoguns benefitting from a fresh design, and a raft of interior and safety upgrades.

The new-look cab is standard across the range, which doers  gives the model a much more modern appearance, and Fuso says it also improves the aerodynamic efficiency of the truck.

Daimler Truck Australia Pacific president and CEO, Daniel Whitehead, said the Shogun 530 demonstrates Fuso’s leadership.

“We were already out in front of our rivals with the 510 horsepower Shogun, so we are especially pleased to deliver our customers a Shogun with 530 horsepower that further extends its lead,” Whitehead said.

“We know our customers will love this truck. I don’t know about you, but I have never heard anyone complain about having too much power,” Whitehead concluded.

Meanwhile vice president for sales, marketing and operations for Daimler, Andrew Assimo said the new Shogun range delivers practical improvements.

“The existing Shogun has been extremely popular in Australia and has been setting new sales records, but we took the opportunity to introduce several upgrades that would make it even better again,” Assimo said.

“More GCM, a new engine with more power and torque, the latest safety package and a big comfort boost with new seats mean the new Shogun is an incredible package,” Assimo added.

Fuso tells us the Shogun 530’s upgraded 13-litre 6R30 engine, which is a Daimler family engine, produces 530 metric horsepower at 1600rpm  with 2600Nm of torque from 1100rpm.  This twin turbo six-cylinder is teamed with a 12-speed AMT that also features an improved creep function.

Fuso engineers not only managed to boost power by 20 horsepower and up the torque by 100Nm, but they say they also also made it more efficient than the previous version.

The company says the new Shogun 530 engine has an extremely powerful engine brake, generating a hefty 1750Nm of torque, while the other engines in the Shogun range remain unchanged.

The Shogun range includes three different engines, starting with the 8-litre, moving up to the 11-litre and topping out with the 13-litre 6R30 engine.

There are a range of different horsepower ratings. Fuso offers the Shogun in a range of specifications including 4×2, 6×2 and 6×4 models as rigids or prime movers as well as an 8×4 rigid version.

The raft of new features include brighter full-LED headlights have now been added as standard, along with LED taillights, a new electronic park brake and a new key fob that no longer needs to be inserted to start the truck, on all Shogun models.

Fuso says that Shogun’s interior upgrades are headlined by new ISRI driver seats across the range while most Shogun models are fitted with cloth-covered ISRI seats, and Shogun 530 customers are upgraded to a leather ISRI seat with heating function.

Other upgrades include new trim panels, as well as an upgraded information cluster and upgraded multimedia unit that can connect wirelessly to both Apple and Android phones.

Fuso says that all Shoguns come standard with Truckonnect telematics that provides a raft of valuable real-time information to fleet operators. Fuso includes a five-year subscription to this service at no extra cost.

The company added that  the upgraded new Shogun models now also  feature a new active safety suite with five radars in addition to a forward-facing camera.

They also boast the latest Active Brake Assist 6 Advanced Emergency Braking System, while  Side Guard Assist 2.0 is also standard, warning of objects on both sides of the vehicle which the company says can even brake the truck automatically on the left side of the vehicle when detecting a potential collision while turning in that direction.
