Leading Queensland transport operator Followmont has announced a further addition of seven new Volvo prime movers to its already large and Volvo dominated fleet.
Followmont announced that i
t has added seven new Volvo FH prime movers which the company says strengthens its commitment to safety, performance and reliability.
The company has taken delivery of the new trucks which it says are led by a Euro 6 D17 engine, that it believes builds on a significant milestone with its tally of Volvo trucks passing 50 on the the Followmont fleet.
It says the latest delivery forms part of its ongoing investment in fleet capability, saying that it will ensure the business can continue to meet the demands of its network and deliver for customers across Queensland and New South Wales.
It says that the fleet underpins how it operates with freight moving daily between metropolitan centres, regional towns and remote communities.
The company says that delivering both reliability and efficiency on the road is critical to keeping freight moving and communities connected from linehaul connections through to local distribution.
The company claims that the new Volvo FH prime movers have been purposely selected to handle the task, and believes that they are built to perform across long distances, changing road conditions and high-frequency movements, while supporting its drivers to operate safely and consistently.
Followmont says the new trucks feature the latest Euro 6 engine technology, which it says will reduce its carbon footprint and fuel consumption as it moves toward long-term sustainability targets.
The company says that the Volvo FH’s focus on safety and performance sits behind its long-standing partnership with Volvo .
The company says that with the Volvo FH’s high standard of safety equipment including what it describes as an industry-leading suite of active and passive safety features, including Dynamic Steering and Pilot Assist to combat fatigue during long-haul operations, it places the Volvos perfectly for its fleet
Followmont Managing Director, Mark Tobin, said the milestone represents more than just fleet growth.
“Reaching and moving beyond 50 Volvo prime movers in our fleet is something we’ve taken the time to reflect on,” Tobin said.
“It speaks to the consistency and reliability we’ve experienced over time, and the strength of the relationship we’ve built with Volvo Group Australia and Volvo Commercial Vehicles,” he said.
Tobin said the latest delivery ensures Followmont continues to invest in equipment that supports both its people and its customers.
“These trucks are built to perform in our network, and early indicators are showing a 7–10% improvement in fuel consumption compared to our Volvo Euro 5 units,” he said.
“More importantly, they are designed to support our drivers on the road every day. And when our drivers are supported, our customers can rely on us to deliver.”
“Reaching our 50th Volvo delivery to Followmont is a testament to the trust and shared values between our two companies,” said Tom Chapman, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Volvo Trucks Australia.
“Safety and sustainability aren’t just buzzwords for us; they are the pillars of our operation. By investing in the latest technology, we are ensuring our customers have the best tools to stay safe all the while minimising our impact on the communities we serve,” he continued, “Not only are these trucks safe and efficient, but we’re also extremely proud of the FH’s proven track record of reliability and uptime.”
Of the seven new prime movers, five will service Townsville and two will service Sydney, supporting freight movements across key parts of the Followmont network and helping maintain reliable service for customers in both regional and metropolitan markets.
Followmont is also expecting a further four Volvo prime movers to join the fleet in the coming months, continuing the business’ investment in strengthening its network capability.
This latest investment forms part of Followmont’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its fleet capability, ensuring it can continue to deliver for customers while maintaining a strong focus on safety, reliability and performance.
