Major public transport provider, Transit Systems has announced it is celebrating national success, thanks to two of its apprentices who have been recognised for outstanding achievements in their respective state awards, which the company says highlights its commitment to gearing up Australia’s next generation of skilled transport professionals.
Transit Systems In New South Wales saw apprentice Patrick Jutrisa named as the BusNSW 2025 Achiever of the Year, recognising his professionalism, reliability, and

passion for the industry.
Swan Transit in Western Australia had its fourth-year apprentice, Zak Enright, announced as the BusWA Apprentice/Trainee of the Year.
Both of the apprentices will now represent their respective states at the national Bus Industry Confederation (BIC) Awards later this month in Perth.
According to Transit Systems CEO, Michael McGee, these achievements reflect the growing strength of its apprenticeship programs across the country and showcases the ongoing investment in developing skilled, motivated, and future-ready transport talent .
“Patrick and Zak are a proud reflection of our focus on skills development and long-term workforce sustainability – they embody the excellence, drive, and curiosity that will define the future of our industry,” McGee said.
“We are passionate and committed to building pathways that help young people grow their skills, confidence, and careers in the transport industry,” he said.
Patrick is completing a Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology and his precision, initiative, and technical skill have seen him excel in the WorldSkills Australia competitions, where he won Gold at the Sydney regional level in the Auto Electrical category before achieving an impressive fourth place nationally in Brisbane, which the company says is a remarkable result in a competition dominated by light vehicle specialists.
Zak’s journey in Western Australia, has been equally inspiring, after he started as a body repairer apprentice at Swan Transit’s Joondalup depot. He is said to have discovered a passion for heavy vehicle maintenance and transferred to the Claremont depot, where he’s now completing his heavy vehicle mechanical apprenticeship.
Over the past year Zac has earned his HR license, taken on increased responsibilities, and consistently delivered exceptional standards in vehicle maintenance, earning the respect of peers and mentors alike according to the company.
Managing director of Swan Transit, Brian Thompson added that Zak’s award reflects the strength of the team’s training culture and commitment to fostering internal growth.
“Zak has demonstrated skill, leadership, and work ethic well beyond his years. His success is a testament not only to his determination but to the support and mentorship of our entire management workshop team,” Thompson said.
Managing director of Transit Systems NSW, Rino Matarazzo, said Patrick’s recognition on the state stage reflects his outstanding drive and focus.
“Patrick has shown incredible dedication. His work ethic, technical skills, and attention to detail have made him a standout apprentice. He represents the best of our next generation – committed, capable, and curious, and we’re proud to see his efforts recognised by the industry,” said Matarazzo.
Michael McGee said both apprentices continue to inspire others entering the field, proving that with the right support and opportunities, transport apprenticeships can lead to rewarding, long-term careers in an essential and growing industry.
“We will continue to invest in programs that attract, train, and retain talented individuals across all aspects of our transport operations, ensuring the next generation is equipped to drive the future of sustainable transport,” he said.
