Daimler Trucks Australia has announced the opening of a new dealership in the important North Queensland regional centre of Townsville.
The new dealership was officially opened this week bringing what the company claims is a new standard in the region, featuring 44 vehicle bays and specialised maintenance equipment, including a 20-tonne heavy lift crane.
Daimler Trucks Townsville sells and supports Freightliner and Mercedes-Benz, as well as Fuso trucks and buses at the Heleen Downs facility and was the joint winner of the Daimler Dealer of the Year last year 2025, having having followed up its outright award outright win in 2024 and 2018.
Daimler Truck Australia Pacific president and CEO, Daniel Whitehead, congratulated the RGM Maintenance directors, Russell Newman and Greg Jackson, on the opening of the new facility.
“This incredible state-of-the-art facility allows the RGM Maintenance team to continue to deliver the amazing customer service that our Daimler Truck customers appreciate so much,” Whitehead said.
“The team works on the biggest combinations that traverse some of the roughest roads in harshest conditions, so it is important to have such advanced maintenance facilities,” he said.
“I’d like to congratulate Russell and Greg from building up the amazing RGM Maintenance Daimler Trucks dealership network while maintaining a firm customer focus right from the first Unimog they worked on,” Whitehead concluded.
Whitehead attended the opening ceremony, which was officially opened by the deputy premier of Queensland and minister for state development, infrastructure, and planning, Jarrod Bleijie MP.
Daimler tells us that the new dealership project was jointly funded by RGM Maintenance and the Queensland Government and will also be used for Australian Defence Force platform sustainment.
Daimler says that RGM Maintenance has maintained a long-standing presence in Townsville and that it continued to prioritise local employment and veteran recruitment, supporting personnel transitioning from Australian Defence Force service into long-term civilian careers aligned with Defence industry needs.
