Swedish truck maker Scania has scored big in the latest Euro NCAP ratings for two of its prime models with both its G-series and R-series being cited for their strong safety performance.
The two Scania models are made for different long-haulage and regional transport needs but according to Scania they both share the same safety approach by supporting the driver through good direct vision, comfort, control, and advanced driver assistance systems.
In the release announced overnight the G-series and R-series models were identified by Euro NCAP in its haulage sector which focuses on heavy vehicles in long-haul and highway-oriented operations.
Scania’s R- and G series are both equipped with a suite of safety features including SSCC (Speed Sign Cruise Control) and CSCC (Curve speed Cruise Control), adding safety in the driver support systems, especially in combination with SSA (Safe Stop Assist), while AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) and VRUBS (Vulnerable Road User Brake System) also strongly contributed to the score of 96 per cent for the trucks in NCAP’s Crash Avoidance tests.
“Safety in long-haulage starts with supporting the driver, including with isibility, comfort, driver assistance, and vehicle control, which all contribute to safer operations.,” said Scania’s head of trucks, Lars Gustafson.
“The G-series and R-series show how Scania adapts these strengths to different transport assignments, while keeping the driver environment familiar,” said Gustafsson.
According to the report Euro NCAP highlighted the R-series for its solid performance in Safe Driving and Collision Avoidance, including its optional camera monitor systems that improve front corner vision and reduce driver workload.
It also noted the R-series’ broad range of crash avoidance technologies, including AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) performance that supports avoidance of collisions with other vehicles, including those with only two wheels, as well as people.
The G-series was recognised for its balanced safety performance, while Euro NCAP described it as a safe all-rounder when specified with the appropriate safety equipment.
Scana says that its lower cab, deep windows and low belt line support direct vision in mixed transport environments.
Euro NCAP also gave the City Safe Award to both the G- and R-series. This adds to the five-star results already achieved by Scania’s L- and P-series, showing how the modular system can support strong safety performance across the cab range.

The G- and R-series are integrated within Scania’s modular system. This means that drivers recognise the layout, controls, and working environment across the Scania range, supporting familiarity, efficiency, and comfort in daily operations. For customers, vehicles can be specified for the right assignment, with the safety systems and cab configuration that best match the operation.

The result underlines Scania’s focus on safety across the applications where the G-series and R-series are used. For customers, the benefit is a familiar driver environment, matched with safety systems and cab specifications that suit the assignment.
