VALE BOB SHAND

The Australian truck industry is mourning the loss of one of its pioneers, with the news of Bob Shand’s death.

Shand was a co-founder Western Star in Australia, who along with Kit Bleakly launched the American brand from Wacol, Queensland in 1983.

Western Star, now synonymous with strength, reliability and comfort, has become a trusted marque in Australia, with many attributing its success to Shand’s contribution.

A tribute from Penske Commercial Vehicles said his legacy will forever remain, and Shand was renowned for an unwavering commitment to the customer, who always strove to deliver a tailored customer experience.

This commitment and spirit continues to be the driving force behind the Western Star Trucks brand, despite market and ownership changes over the past three decades with Transpafic and now Penske.
