Kia delivered an interesting vehicle launch this week’s IAA commercial vehicle Expo at Hannover in Germany revealing another battery electric van range that comes hot on the heels of it recently launched PV5 model.
Kia tore the covers off its new larger electric cargo van model the PV7 at the Hannover Show and the local Kia subsidiary has confirmed that the new bigger model will join the PV5 in Australia is by the fourth quarter of 2027.
While the new Korean built load carrier was unveiled in Germany Kia Australia emphasised that like other local Kia products, the new PV7 will undergo its extensive ride and handling program, to ensure the new van can cope with our local roads and conditions.
Obviously details on trim variants, features, and pricing are a way off being announced just yet but Kia Australia says this will be here soon enough.
The Kia PV7 is the second model in Kia’s dedicated, all-electric Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) lineup, and expands the brand’s offering in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment.
PV7 will be available in both Cargo and Passenger variants, and combines electric performance, flexible interior space and connected technology to support a wide range of business and mobility applications according to Kia.
Built on the afore-mentioned PBV-dedicated E-GMP.S architecture, it features a flat-floor design that is claimed to maximise interior space and flexibility, along with what Kia describes as “productivity-focused solutions that help customers achieve greater productivity in their day-to-day operations” and to drive stronger business outcomes.
Kia says it will launch the PV7 in Korea and Europe early next year, with additional derivatives and markets to follow.
The PV7 is said to expand the scale and scope of Kia’s PBV offering, with larger dimensions and broader application potential that will enable Kia to serve a wider range of customer needs, from fleet, logistics and shuttle operations to small- and medium-sized businesses and personal mobility.
Kia’s executive vice president and head of its PBV Business Division Sangdae Kim said the PV7 has been developed to give customers the flexibility to adapt as needs evolve.
,“As a business-tailored tool engineered to deliver best-in-class EV performance, data-driven solutions, and total service excellence, it will enable customers to improve work efficiency, enhance productivity, and create greater value throughout the business lifecycle,” Kim said.
Designed as a versatile, business-tailored vehicle, the PV7 is based on Kia’s ‘Tool Box’ concept, which focuses on creating vehicles optimised for specific customer requirements.
While the PV5’s ‘Open Box’ concept emphasizes urban flexibility, the PV7 has been developed to provide greater capacity and payload for more demanding operating environments and larger-scale applications.
Kia claims it has also been designed around the practical needs of drivers, operators and passengers, with features that reduce physical strain during entry and loading, improve usability and convenience, and support safer and more efficient operation.
Kia says it has developed the PV7’s electric capabilities not simply around regulatory requirements, but as tools to support business innovation, productivity and operational efficiency.
PV7 will be offered with a choice of 71.5 kWh and 96.2 kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) battery packs and depending on market and configuration, and the electric powertrain delivers up to 200 kW and 420 Nm of torque to the front wheels.
Front-wheel drive is standard, with an all-wheel-drive variant planned as a future addition, while the Long Range Cargo variant offers more than 460 km of all-electric range (AER) under the WLTP cycle
The company claims that the PV7’s 800V architecture enables 10-to-80 per cent charging in the mid-20-minute range using a 350 kW DC fast charger, helping reduce downtime. The PV7 also offers dual charging ports, including a front AC/DC charging port and an optional rear-side AC charging port, which is a first for Kia and provides greater flexibility across a wider range of parking and charging environments.
Kia reckons the PV7 has been based on the Android Automotive OS, which it says delivers a smartphone-like in-vehicle experience through connected navigation, flexible screen layouts, an open app marketplace featuring first- and third-party business applications, and over-the-air updates. The platform incorporates Gleo AI, which is an AI-powered voice assistant that enables natural-language control of vehicle, navigation and messaging functions.
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality enables the PV7 to power and charge tools, business equipment and other devices through exterior and interior outlets, while a dedicated heavy-load driving mode helps the Cargo variant maintain stable driving performance by adapting to varying payload conditions.
PV7 Cargo has been designed for logistics, delivery, fleet and small- and medium-sized business operations, the PV7 Cargo is available in two- and three-seat configurations globally and prioritises capacity, accessibility and efficiency. The Cargo Long model offers up to 6.1 cubic metres of cargo space , while the Cargo High Roof provides up to 8.0 m³. Maximum payload capacity is rated at 1,165 kg for the Long and 1,200 kgfor the Compact variant. The Long model features a 550 mm loading height and capacity for up to three Euro pallets (800 × 1,200 mm). A dedicated heavy-load driving mode adapts vehicle performance to varying payload conditions, helping maintain stability under substantial loads.
PV7 Passenger has been designed for crew transport, shuttle and rental services, tourism and family use, and combines comfort with exceptional versatility. It accommodates up to nine occupants globally and up to 11 in Korea, with a variety of seating configurations designed to support different passenger and operational requirements.
The 7-seat model is equipped with Long-Rail Easy Remove Seats, enabling flexible interior configurations to suit different customer needs. The 9-seat model is available with or without a fourth row, providing greater flexibility for different passenger and operational requirements. Rear climate control adds passenger comfort, while available features include 100W USB-C charging ports and storage solutions.
The PV7 is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety technologies and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) designed to support drivers, help reduce accident risk and protect occupants.
Its seven-airbag system includes a roof-mounted front passenger airbag, while Pedal Misapplication Safety Assist 2.0 (PMSA 2.0) is designed to help reduce the risk of unintended acceleration caused by incorrect pedal operation.
Additional ADAS features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist 2.0 (LKA 2.0), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Highway Driving Assist 2.0 (HDA 2.0), Front, Side and Rear Parking Distance Warning (PDW), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), Rear View Monitor (RVM) and Surround View Monitor (SVM). In addition, Built-in Cam 3.0 enables drivers to capture and review driving footage.
“The PV7 builds on the design principles introduced with the PV5, exploring how a larger commercial vehicle can feel more approachable, adaptable and connected to the people who rely on it every day,” said Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design.
“It reflects our belief that thoughtful, human-centered design can make even the most practical vehicle more relevant, meaningful and rewarding to experience.”
At the rear, variant-specific door and tailgate designs[8] balance practicality with visual consistency. Technical rear-light graphics, exposed hinges and clearly defined opening layouts emphasize functionality, while replaceable bumper corners, wheel-arch sections and door cladding help simplify repairs and reduce downtime.
Kia says it will expand the PV7 lineup beyond the models introduced at the Hannover premiere, introducing 23 variants to support a broader range of customer needs and use cases.
The full lineup will include Cargo (Compact[10], Long, High Roof) and Passenger (Compact, Long) variants, a dedicated Chassis Cab for specialist applications, along with a wide range of conversion models.
