To see if there are fuel economy benefits from using synthetic lubricants, Viva Energy has chassis dynamometer testing conducted to measure the fuel consumption of a prime mover running Shell fully synthetic lubricants*.
The results of these tests were then compared to the fuel consumption of the same vehicle under identical conditions running premium quality mineral grade lubricants.
The resting was based on an Australian truck duty cycle containing a mix of highway and metro driving. The testing demonstrated that when using synthetic lubricants(for engine, transmission and rear axle) the vehicle used on average 2.5%* less fuel than when using mineral lubricants for the same purposes.
