VOLVO REVVED UP WITH NEW RANGE OF LOW HORSEPOWER 13 LITRE FM ENGINE VARIANTS

Mercedes-Benz

Volvo has announced a new range of horsepower ratings for its popular Euro 6 13-litre engine platform fitted to its FM model workhorses.

The new range goes from 380hp and 1850Nm to 420hp and 2100Nm and also includes a 460hp/2300Nm variant,  and according to Volvo the changes are intended to provide robust and efficient powertrain options across a range of transport applications.

The company claims that the arrival of this low horsepower range introduces increased torque across a broader, lower rpm torque band.

Volvo says.  that peak torque starts at 905Nm and stretches to 1400Nm across all three new engine variants.

It also claims that the new engine variants also feature improved engine brake performance with power braking power increased 70Kw over comparable 11-litre variants.

“This new offering is designed to support FM customers with potential gains  in efficiency and performance for lightweight and rigid applications,”  Volvo Trucks Australia vice president of sales and marketing, Tom Chapman said.

“We remain committed to delivering value to our customers with features such as extended oil drain intervals, more torque and more powerful engine braking,” said Chapman.

“We’re confident that the Volvo FM will continue to offer a compelling option for Australian transport operators,” he added.

Volvo says its FM can operate at a GCM of up to 90 tons and is available with six different cab variants, ranging from day cab (low and high), to sleeper (low and high), Globetrotter and crew cab.
