Volvo has announced it has launched a new lighter weight version of its FL Electric model and that it is now available in Australia.
Volvo says the new variant complements its existing medium-duty FL and FE Electric range and features LFP battery packs and what the company describes as a a “city friendly” narrower, 2400mm cab.
The new 14,000kg GVM 4×2 rigid is now the lightest in the Volvo Trucks electric range and the company says it opens up new segments in final mile applications.
Volvo says that the new LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery packs have an energy capacity of 175kWh and enable a fast charging time of as low as an hour using a 150kW fast charger. The company says the new 180kW driveline utilises a two-speed automated transmission to feed the power to the ground.
The new electric FL variant boasts wheelbase options range from 3800mm to 6500mm according to Volvo.
“This new truck provides an attractive cost-effective entry to low emissions final mile and urban distribution roles,” said Volvo Trucks Australia’s vice president of sales and marketing, Tom Chapman.
”The option of LFP batteries provides a tough and robust energy storage option for operators that need flexibility in charging solutions,” Chapman said.
Volvo Group’s director of E-Mobility, Tim Camilleri, said his new variant will allow Volvo to move into lighter roles in urban transport.
“Many operators are chasing both payload and productivity and we feel this truck delivers both these attributes in excess while retaining the same levels of safety, quality that the Volvo brand has become synonymous with,” Camilleri said.
“Best of all, thanks to the support of the Clean Energy Finance Commission and Volvo Financial Services, the barriers to entry are now much lower with our Electric Ready Lease. Meaning all businesses regardless of size can opt to go electric,” he added.
Volvo said that its new 14-tonne FL Electric is now available to purchase in Australia.
