Swedish maker Scania has announced that its long-awaited new generation Touring coach has been launched in Europe.
After years of anticipation, the brand’s new generation Touring has been introduced, with the company claiming it as a milestone in its coach offerings, and that the new generation model builds on its product concept while taking exterior styling, the passenger environment, driver area and powertrain features to new levels.
Scania tells us that the new Touring coach features a contemporary exterior design with a clear Scania identity, as well as better aerodynamics, digital rear-view mirrors and a high efficiency Super powertrain platform, which of course was debuted in the company’s truck offerings over the past two years.
The company says that the driver benefits from improved visibility and a new central information display, which adds to the new interior, along with updated passenger amenities and what it says is enhanced comfort, along with increased luggage capacity.
Scania says the Touring has been a vital part of its bus and coach portfolio since its introduction in 2009 and that the new generation builds on a product that has gained strong commercial momentum and recognition in the travel segment in recent years, including the Sustainable Bus Award 2025 for the gas-driven Scania Touring.
“The new generation Scania Touring is a significant improvement of what is already an advanced and highly appreciated coach. It combines the reliability and energy efficiency that customers expect from Scania with a much anticipated, new Scania-specific design as well as key upgrades in luggage capacity and for the driver and passenger experience,” said Sundeep Kumar, Scania’s head of portfolio management for people transport solutions.
Scania says that one of the most visible updates is the exterior design, with the new Touring featuring what it describes as a contemporary expression, with the company’s design language integrated into the front, sides and rear for a ‘clean and elegant, yet robust, look’.
The company added that the redesigned exterior is more than a visual update, with improved aerodynamics providing reduced energy consumption and lower noise levels.
This is assisted with the latest technology digital rear-view mirrors which significantly reduce air drag, while supporting manoeuvrability and visibility. As well as that Scania is claiming the high position of the Touring’s rear lights make it visible even from a distance.
The result of all this it says is a coach that presents a modern appearance, while supporting efficiency, comfort and safety in daily operations.
The company says that the driver area has been further developed to support visibility, control and the overall driver experience in everyday use.
It said that its improved driver visibility is achieved through updates to the front door and side window, with the B-pillar placed 90 mm further back, giving the driver a noticeably better view of the surroundings. The coach also expands Scania’s digital Smart Dash interface for drivers with a central information display that features important functionalities such as passenger infotainment, navigation and reverse camera, which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The company says that the passenger experience is a key part of travel operations and the passenger area of the new Touring has been designed for a modern and cohesive onboard environment.
It added that wider and deeper staircase steps improve accessibility, while redesigned luggage racks and increased luggage compartment capacity support the practical needs of longer journeys.
Scania says that its new Touring also offers upgraded interior design options, including Kiel Avance X seats with USB-C ports, new colour and trim alternatives, updated service sets and ambient lighting that contribute to the travel experience.
Scania says that by comparison with its predecessors, the new coach’s Euro 7-tuned Super powertrain typically can achieve between eightt and 10 per cent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions outputs. As well as this Scania says that it also delivers easier maintenance and a 25 per cent extended lifespan, adding up to great reliability and performance.
the company says that a reduced number of parts, improved parts availability and Scania’s service offering further helps operators keep coaches on the road and reduce the risk of operational disruptions.
The company said that this is especially important in travel operations, where vehicle availability directly affects customer experience and business performance.
“With the new generation Scania Touring, we have refined the whole vehicle and user experience with a state-of-the art design, improved comfort, efficiency, and uptime. All in all, the new Scania Touring provides great value for operators, drivers and passengers,” Kumar concluded.
Scania says that in line with its strategy to support the sustainability journey of customers with differing needs and prerequisites, operators can expect the new Scania Touring to also be introduced on other, recently launched powertrain platforms, as part of a phased rollout in which the BEV variant will be first out.
