ASSIMO APPOINTED BOSS OF MERCEDES BENZ TRUCKS FOLLOWING MAY’S DEPARTURE

Mercedes Benz Trucks  has announced that Andrew Assimo has been appointed the director of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Australia Pacific, taking over the role following the resignation of Michael May from the role at the end of 2019.

Andrew Assimo comes to  the role of director after  five years  as senior manager, overseeing sales, production, operations and marketing. He first joined Mercedes Benz back in 2007 as heavy vehicle product engineer.

In what is a logical appointment, Assimo will be a welcome and popular choice to head up the Three Pointed Star’s truck operations in Australia.

His predecessor and former boss, Michael May resigned from Daimler to tak up the role of managing director of Iveco Australia.

Daimler Truck and Bus President and CEO, Daniel Whitehead, says Mr Assimo is clearly the best person for the role, which covers the Australian and New Zealand markets.

“Andrew has played a key role in establishing Mercedes-Benz as the premier heavy duty cab-over brand for smart business operators in Australia and we are confident he can guide the brand to even greater success,” Mr Whitehead says.

“He has a close relationship with our Mercedes-Benz customers, having helped them improve their businesses during the last few years, and we know they will be pleased with this appointment.”

Mr Whitehead says Mr Assimo takes over the Director role at an exciting time for the brand.

“Mercedes-Benz has the best cab-over truck in the market and is about to move further ahead with an even smarter Actros featuring MirrorCam and a host of other upgrades that its rivals simply can’t match,” Mr Whitehead says.
