Global commercial vehicle powertrain giant, Cummins has announced it will use this week’s Australasia Bus and Coach Expo in Sydney to showcase its new X10 Euro VI engine for the first time in this country, saying that it will give local bus and coach operators, original equipment manufacturers and industry stakeholders an opportunity to see the company’s next-generation power solution ahead of its planned release in 2027.
Cummins says its X10 Euro VI engine has been featured at major bus exhibitions around the world and that it is a clean-sheet engine platform, which is purpose-built for bus and coach applications.
The company says that the new engine has been engineered to meet the needs of markets around the world, including here in Australia, and has been designed to help reduce operating costs, improve fuel efficiency and lower vehicle weight.
Cummins claims that the X10 Euro VI is intended to deliver a balance of performance, efficiency and durability.
It said that the X10 Euro VI is a part of its HELM engine family and its design does not use exhaust gas recirculation or a variable geometry turbocharger, delivering outputs ranging from 360 horsepower to 454 horsepower.
As well as that the new engine boasts 2,200 newton meters of torque available from 1,000 rpm, with Cummins claiming that the new engine is engineered to provide the low-speed pulling power, fuel efficiency and durability that it says is required by Australian bus operators.
Cummins’ business manager for bus and coach, Andrew Steele said that for Australian operators, the X10 Euro VI has designed to deliver what they have been asking for.
“Those features include strong low-end torque, lower fuel consumption and improved total cost of ownership,” Andrew Steele.
“We are proud to bring the X10 Euro VI to Australia for the first time at the Australasia Bus & Coach Expo. It is an opportunity for customers to see first hand the technology that will help support the next generation of bus power,” he added.
Cummins said that its X10 Euro VI also incorporates advanced electronic controls designed to support real-time engine monitoring and predictive diagnostics, helping operators improve vehicle uptime and reduce maintenance over the engine’s life cycle.
With Cummins using the Sydney Bus Show as the showcase for the new engine operators can see it on display on stand 15, the Cummins stand at the Sydney Showground Dome at Sydney Olympic Park from tomorrow.
