DAKAR SCANIA TAKES A PUNCH IN ITS INTERNATIONAL NOSE

In one of the biggest and fastest truck crashes in the 42 year history of the tough  Dakar Rally, the Dakarspeed team of  Dutch driver, Maurik Van Den Huevel along with fellow countrymen, navigator Marijn Van Rooij and mechanic Wilton Van Oortis has been captured, quite literally tripping over in the desert  and rolling at high speed.

The strange looking truck is actually a Scania, but perhaps in a nod to parent company Traton’s recent ownership of the US brand International, the Dakar race truck featured the nose design and grille  of an International Lone Star.

However the Dakarspeed International Scania suffered a massive crash on stage seven of the rally, virtually destroying the machine, which despite  some hope that it might be rebuilt, has been retired from the event.
