Scania says its P-series cab P4x2 distribution has achieved the highest possible rating in the European consumer testing organisation Euro NCAP’s Safer Trucks program.
Scania added that the rating also applies for its P6x2 utility, as well as its L4x2 distribution and is in addition to the recently granted five-star rating for the L6x2 utility.
The vehicle that was tested was a Scania P-cab in the distribution sector, and alongside the five stars, it pointed out that the P-cab also scored the highest score in the Euro NCAP’s “CitySafe”, for heavy vehicles with features designed to prevent accidents in urban environments.
Scania says its P-cab is its most versatile cab, and is designed for urban and regional operations and is well-proven for vocational operations including construction and other demanding applications.
The company says that it’s a robust choice, with the driver sitting high delivering a strong view of the traffic ahead while saying that its Scania City Door also enhances visibility.
“To see that our P-cab follow suit and receives the same high rating as our L-cab refuse truck did earlier by Euro NCAP shows that safety is something we put our pride in and it is also proof that we deliver on the increasingly high expectations from cities, customers, transport buyers and road users, in line with our values,” said Scania’s head of Trucks, Lars Gustafsson,
Scania says its P-cab gives the driver a high visibility of vulnerable road users thanks to its low cab position and the corner-eye camera .
It says the recently updated crash avoidance systems achieved an overall score of 93 per cent, which the company says reinforces the high performance and reliability of its active safety technology.
Scania claims the systems, which address frontal collision mitigation, lane departure prevention, and Vulnerable Road User Brake Side (VRUBS) scenarios (protecting cyclists during side-turn manoeuvres) enabled the truck to deliver the strong results, with VRUBS achieving a perfect 100 per cent score.
“It is great to see Scania leading the way in safety by producing safer trucks for the city environment and in so doing protecting Europe’s more vulnerable road users a real achievement,” said Euro NCAP’s director for strategic development Matthew Avery.
Scania also pointed out that its L-cab refuse truck was also awarded five stars recently.
“That the L-cab for distribution is equally safe is another strong validation, especially considering the maximum rating in direct vision,” said Gustafsson.
Scania says that its L-cab was purpose-built for distribution and is especially useful in urban operations thanks to the driver ergonomics.
It points out that it has exceptional direct vision, particularly when equipped with Scania’s City Door, which enhances accessibility when opening doors within minimum space.
Scania says that both its P-cab and the L-cab are integrated within Scania’s modular system, which means that drivers instantly recognise the layout and controls, providing familiarity, efficiency and comfort.
“Our trucks deliver on our promise to not only have great comfort, but also safety that is on par with the highest standards of the Euro NCAP,” Gustafsson said.
“Safe trucks are vital given the importance transport has in society. The safety of road users is something we always keep in mind while we develop new transport solutions,” he concluded
