A Perth fire and rescue truck fabrication company has delivered of WA’s first pink coloured Scania Fire Appliance ahead of its commissioning with Hancock Iron Ore in the Pilbara and has used it to raise vital funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
Perth based Frontline Fire and Rescue has marked the official handover of the first Pink Scania Fire Appliance in WA to Hancock Iron Ore by hosting a ‘Pink for a Purpose’ fundraising event to support of the NBCF.
Held at Frontline’s commissioning and maintenance workshop in the Perth suburb of Malaga, the fundraiser brought together employees, suppliers, customers and supporters, with team members volunteering to shave their heads or spray their hair pink as part of the Head Shave and Pink Hair Challenge.
Frontline raised $30,822 through the event, with funds raised supporting the NBCF world-class breast cancer research and its vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.
A total of 56 Australians every day, are diagnosed with breast cancer and nine Australians lose their lives to the disease.
For many at Frontline Fire and Rescue, the cause is deeply personal, with breast cancer having touched the lives of employees, families, friends and colleagues.
“While we’re incredibly proud to deliver this purpose-built emergency response vehicle, its handover also gave our team an opportunity to support a cause that has touched many of our employees, families and friends,”said business manager of Frontline Fire and Rescue, James Flurry.
Designed and manufactured in Western Australia, the purpose-built appliance features Frontline Fire and Rescue’s new Urban Tanker design and latest features and will strengthen emergency response capability across Hancock Iron Ore’s mining operations.
Its distinctive pink finish continues Hancock Iron Ore’s highly visible support for breast cancer research and patient care, adding to the company’s world-leading use of pink mining equipment across its operations including haul trucks, locomotives, crushers and processing plants/infrastructure.
The event also featured a message from NBCF and guest speaker Maria Dunn, who spoke about her personal breast cancer journey.
The Head Shave and Pink Hair Challenge was led by four-time World Hairdressing Champion Antonio Sorgiovanni of Sorge’s House for Hair.
Frontline Fire and Rescue thanked Hancock Iron Ore for entrusting the team with the design and build of the appliance and for joining the official handover as well as the NBCF and Maria Dunn, together with Antonio Sorgiovanni and his team, for their support, along with the employees, suppliers, customers and community members whose participation and generosity made the Pink for a Purpose fundraiser a success
