It’s always nice to welcome a new brand to the trucking family, although this one comes with a brand name many might associate more with vacuum cleaners!

Volta Trucks describes itself as a disruptive full-electric commercial vehicle manufacturer and services provider.

Based in Sweden, but with a design and engineering team in the UK, Volta Trucks has just taken the covers off new 7.5-tonne and 12-tonne Volta Zero variants.

Set to enter production next year, with trials planned for 2024, the fully-electric trucks will join a previously announced 16-tonne variant, with eyes on up to a 23-tonne model in the future.

Volta Trucks tell us the new models carry over the principles of the innovative cab and premium working environment for drivers.

“The vehicle’s ground-up design, without the traditional internal combustion engine, has enabled designers and engineers to completely rethink truck design in this segment.”

The fully electric trucks have been designed with safety in mind, with the driver getting a wide 220-degrees of direct vision around the vehicle.

There will also be 360-degree visibility through a birds-eye camera system and blind-spot warning systems that detect objects down the sides of the vehicle.

While the workspace for drivers has been designed, according to Volta Trucks, with minimized cognitive overload in mind, and a driving experience more akin to a premium car than today’s traditional commercial vehicle.

Essa Al-Saleh, Chief Executive Officer of Volta Trucks, says the future looks bright for the EV manufacturer.

“Our customers tell us that they appreciate the safety and zero-emission attributes of the 16-tonne Volta Zero, but also need smaller 7.5- and 12-tonne vehicles in their operations.

“Our engineering teams are now scaling rapidly to be able to deliver all four vehicles at pace, as our customers ask of us.”

No word yet on whether Volta Trucks will be offered in the Australian market, we’ll keep you updated.
